CSCE 2008-2009 ANNUAL REPORT.pdf
A New Mission The mission of The Canadian Society for Civil Engineering is to advance professional knowledge and the practice of civil engineering.
A Broader Role
Taking a leadership role related to Canadian civil engineering by being:
- The leading Canadian professional organization serving civil engineering and those in related disciplines;
- The coordinating and facilitating body for matters and concerns related to civil engineering;
- The focal point for the transfer of research results and information on professional practice and new technology;
- The provider of effective and efficient service to its members through co-operation with other organizations.
Being The Focal Point
CSCE intends to expand its existing role by being the focal point for issues relevant to Canadian civil engineering through building new strategic partnerships and by taking a leadership role in many forums. For instance, CSCE will launch a nationwide campaign to educate the public, policy makers, and the media about the effective management of our infrastructure and our environment.
Representing Key Stakeholders in the Civil Engineering Profession
Our governance model will be redesigned to foster broader representation from all sectors of our profession. In 2000, CSCE launched a Corporate Membership Campaign to solicit new members from the public and corporate sectors. By becoming more inclusive, CSCE will become a recognized authority and will facilitate technology transfer.
Delivering enhanced career development opportunities and value-added membership benefits
As we partner and represent a broader audience, CSCE will increase its national and local level of services. Customized training programs, a professional-quality magazine, job opportunities on our Web site, and trade fairs are currently being investigated to better serve the needs of our existing and future membership. The promotion of our expanding International Affairs Committee programs will provide members with additional opportunities.
Increasing our visibility and viability
CSCE will increase its promotion and communication efforts to foster a public image reflecting the Society's values. CSCE will market its activities to showcase our custodial role for the Canadian civil engineering profession and demonstrate CSCE's leadership role in the field. Cross-promotional activities and high profile public activities (like our Nationwide Discussion Forum) will be undertaken to convey the important and relevant ongoing contribution of civil engineering.
A growth based financial plan
CSCE will forecast an annual average growth of 10% for the next 5 years (financial and membership). A 5-year financial plan has been established in order to support this expanded role and scope. All initiatives will be assessed on their ability to generate additional revenues and minimize our potential liability. This in addition to our expected membership growth, the launch of a National Donation Campaign, and generating new sponsorship revenues will self-sustain the efforts being deployed by this five-year Strategic Plan.
