HONOURS, AWARDS AND FELLOWSHIPS

The CSCE awards program is administered jointly by the CSCE Honours & Fellowships Committee and by the CSCE Foundation Trustees (a Canadian registered charity) and funded by the generosity of CSCE members and others who support the Society's mission. These awards are intended to recognize and encourage the pursuit of excellence.

FELLOW (FCSCE)

Members who have attained civil engineering excellence and who have contributed actively towards the progress of their profession may be elected as Fellows by the CSCE Board of Directors. A person must have a minimum of 10 years of professional experience and shall have been a corporate member [Life Member (LMCSCE), Member (MCSCE), Associate Member (ASCSCE)] in good standing for a minimum of 5 consecutive years immediately prior to the election. A complete nomination requires three sponsors who are CSCE members in good standing, at least one of whom is a Fellow in good standing of the Society, separate attached letters of reference from two of the sponsors as well as a resume (5 page limit). Please submit the completed application form(s) and letters electronically to Louise Newman at louise@csce.ca.

One may not apply for this status but must be nominated by other CSCE Members.

CAREER AWARDS

Candidates for career awards must be CSCE Members in good standing for a mimumum of 5 consecutive years immediately prior to the award and must have distinguished themselves through their noteworthy achievements in their respective areas of specialization over a career period exceeding 20 years.
A complete nomination requires three sponsors who are CSCE members in good standing of the Society to supply the following documentation: (1) a nomination letter (main sponsor); (2) two separate supporting letters (other 2 sponsors); and (3) a resume of the candidate (5 pages limit).

A.B. SANDERSON AWARD
Recognizes outstanding contributions by a civil engineer to the development and practice of structural engineering in Canada.
ALBERT E. BERRY MEDAL
Recognizes significant contributions by a civil engineer to the field of environmental engineering in Canada.
CAMILLE A. DAGENAIS AWARD
Recognizes outstanding contributions by a civil engineer to the development and practice of hydrotechnical engineering in Canada.
E. WHITMAN WRIGHT AWARD
Recognizes significant contributions by a civil engineer to the development of computer applications in civil engineering in Canada. Canada.

EXCELLENCE IN INNOVATION IN CIVIL ENGINEERING AWARD
Recognizes excellence in innovation in civil engineering by an individual or a group of individuals practicing civil engineering in Canada, or a Canadian engineering firm, or a Canadian research organization.

HORST LEIPHOLZ MEDAL
Recognizes outstanding contributions by a civil engineer to engineering mechanics research and/or practice in Canada.
JAMES A. VANCE AWARD
Recognizes a CSCE Member whose dedicated service, other than as President, has furthered the advancement of the CSCE and who is completing or has recently completed a term of service to the Society in some particular office.
SANDFORD FLEMING AWARD
Recognizes outsanding contributions to the development and practice of transportation engineering in Canada
WALTER SHANLY AWARD
Recognizes outsanding contributions to the development and practice of construction engineering in Canada
W. GORDON PLEWES AWARD
Recognizes particularly noteworthy contributions by an individual to the study of the history of civil engineering in Canada or the history of civil engineering achievements by Canadians elsewhere.

TECHNICAL PAPER AWARDS

DONALD R. STANLEY AWARD
Established in 2006 in honour of the late Donald R. Stanley, the award is granted for the best paper on a civil engineering subject in the area of enviornmental engineering.
GZOWSKI MEDAL
Established by Colonel Sir Casimir Gzowski, a President of the (original) Canadian Society of Civil Engineers, the medal is awarded annually for the best paper on a civil engineering subject in the areas of surveying, structural engineering and heavy construction.
KEEFER MEDAL
Established in 1942 in honour of T.C. Keefer, the first President of the (original) Canadian Society of Civil Engineers, the medal is awarded annually for the best paper presented on a civil engineering subject in the areas other than those covered by the Gzowski Medal.
P.L. PRATLEY AWARD
Established in 1987 in honour of P.L. Pratley, a distinguished bridge engineer. This award is granted annually for the best paper in the field of bridge engineering.
STEPHEN G. REVAY AWARD
Established in 2005 in honour of the late Stephen G. Revay (1924-2004), President of the CSCE in 1989-1990.  This award is granted for the best paper in the areas of construction engineering, construction management, or project management.

SCHOLARSHIPS

DONALD JAMIESON FELLOWSHIP
Established in 1987 in honour of the late Donald Jamieson, a prominent and talented structural engineer from Vancouver, B.C., the fellowship is awarded to full-time graduate students in structural engineering at a Canadian University  Call for Applications:  Donald Jamieson 2010 English.pdf
DILLON CONSULTING SCHOLARSHIP
Established in 2006 and funded by Dillon Consulting Ltd., the scholarship is awarded annually to candidates pursuing full-time graduate studies in any sub-discipline of civil engineering at a Canadian university.
