TECH TALK May 1: NRC Construction Climate Change Initiative

NRC CONSTRUCTION’S CLIMATE CHANGE INITIATIVE

Climate change will subject buildings to more frequent and intense climate loads of longer duration, particularly wind-driven rain events that will increase the risk of premature degradation of the building envelope, and water entry that will cause moisture-related problems. NRC Construction’s Climate Change Initiative is addressing what can be done to adapt new building design, or the retrofit of existing buildings, to accommodate such future changes.

Michael Lacasse, Ph.D., P.Eng., is Senior Research Officer and Team Leader, Façade Systems and Products Team, Construction Research Centre, National Research Council of Canada. He is a building engineer with over 30 years’ experience in research related to assessing the long-term moisture performance of wall assemblies and the durability of building envelope materials and components.
