TECH TALK May 15: Historic Masonry Structures

ASSESSMENT AND CONSERVATION OF HISTORIC MASONRY STRUCTURES

Historic masonry structures were constructed following different principles than modern construction and analysis methods and so create challenging problems for modern structural engineers. The presentation will discuss the construction and engineering practices that are the bases of their original design, typically observed deterioration, and the correlation with analysis methods.

Jamie Marrs, P.Eng., has a Master of Applied Science degree in the structural analysis of masonry structures. She has worked with John G. Cooke and Associates Ltd. in Ottawa for over five years and is currently working full-time on the Centre Block Rehabilitation Project.
