Vision
Since 2010 CSCE has adopted as its Vision: Leadership in Sustainable Infrastructure. This Vision is reflected in all aspects of CSCE's activities and is exemplified by the CSCE Award for Governmental Leadership in Sustainable Infrastructure which will be presented for the first time at the CSCE Annual Conference in Edmonton in 2012.
Mission
The Canadian Society for Civil Engineering promotes the profession of civil engineering in Canada and the development, acquisition and exchange of professional knowledge within the field of civil engineering.
Corporate Membership
CSCE's Corporate Members are an essential part of the Society. These entities - both from the public and private sectors - represent the practical application of civil engineering knowledge. The link that CSCE provides between the academic members of the Society and the Corporate Members therefore represents a critical feedback loop between theory and practice.
CSCE interacts with the academic side of the profession through the Heads and Chairs of the Civil Engineering Departments of the accredited universities and technical institutes in Canada. These academics are represented on the Board of Directors of the Society and meet annuall at the CSCE conference to discuss issues of mutual interest.
In a similar manner CSCE Corporate members (Affiliate, Partner and Major Partner) are also represented on the Board of Directors of CSCE. These members are invited to participate on the President’s Advisory Committee. This is an ad hoc group that the President has access to throughout the year. The Advisory Committee meets annually at the CSCE conference. The mission of The Canadian Society for Civil Engineering is to advance professional knowledge and the practice of civil engineering.
Life Long Learning
CSCE offers through its Life Long Learning program opportunities for practicing civil engineers to gain Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or Professional Development Hour (PDH) credits registered with the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC).
CSCE provides the following opportunities to earn CEUs and PDHs:
- Workshops: CSCE organizes annually a series of workshops that are presented in various cities across the country. Workshops are also presented at the CSCE annual conference
- In-House Seminars: CSCE can develop custom professional development courses for corporations.
In addition to professional development opportunities that are eligible for CEUs and PDHs, CSCE organizes cross country tours on topics of interest to civil engineers. These National Lecture Tours are a very popular activity and corporate members can participate either as hosts of a tour or else may choose to offer a lecture on a recent initiative as an NLT topic.
