The Canadian Society for Civil Engineering invites you to the 2009 Triennial Conference of the CSCE, the ICE and the ASCE - Coastal Engineering: Future Challenges and Risks
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I am delighted to invite you to attend the 2009 Triennial Conference of The Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, The Institution of Civil Engineers and The American Society of Civil Engineers. This important international event, hosted in Canada every nine years, is being held at the Fairmont Hotel in St. John’s, Newfoundland on June 1 and 2, 2009.
The theme of the conference, Coastal Engineering: Future Challenges and Risks, will focus on coastal hazards and challenges due to the impacts of climate change and other global or regional concerns. Invited keynote speakers will address such themes as coastal zone management, marine hazards and their impact on coastal structures, climate change in coastal areas, marine renewable energy, and sustainable coastal development. The latest knowledge and insights on what the future holds will be discussed and the methods of adapting practices to better strive towards sustainability will be presented.
Poised at the brink of the North Atlantic Ocean, St. John’s is in the heart of Newfoundland and Labrador’s 17,000 kilometre coastline. Ocean-related research and development in St. John’s has been instrumental in the continued expansion of ocean industries on both the local and international scenes.
The conference will be of interest to those wishing to hear from leading international experts and exchange on how what they have to say might influence regional and global coastal development policy and technological solutions. The presentation format will encourage participation through question and answer periods and networking/business development will be further supported by an industrial exhibition. Our social evening will feature a unique local dining and entertaining experience sure to please everyone.
