Johnson GEO Centre (www.geocentre.ca)

The Johnson GEO Centre is housed in one of the most distinctive buildings in the province, on a beautiful 7 hectare (18 acre) property next to Signal Hill National Historic Site, on world-famous Signal Hill. The large, glass-encased entry is the only part of the building above ground. Most of the over 3,100 m2 (33,000 ft2) of floor space is underground — right inside the solid rock walls!

The exhibits in the GEO Centre tell the remarkable story of the geological history of Newfoundland and Labrador, which extends back for an incredible 3.7 billion years. Only a handful of places in the entire world have such an extraordinary story of Earth to tell.  You will be intrigued by the stories behind the radical changes that take place in our climate, and the constant, all-powerful influences of the Sun and our Earth’s gravity. And you will also marvel as you look at what lies far beyond our planet, into the far reaches of outer space, where science tells us how our Earth’s future is unfolding.

Battery Hotel (
www.batteryhotel.com)

The Battery Hotel is located on Signal Hill, across the street from the Johnson GEO CENTRE, overlooking St. John’s Harbour.  The dinner will be served in a room with a panoramic view of the harbour, and guests will be able to enjoy the lights of the city and the ships reflecting on the water.
